Fuyen CHUNG, master brewer at Greed Brewing CO (Chile) in Alsace

Fuyen, winner of the French Lager category at the Copa Cerveza 2023 in Valdivia, Chile, crafted an outstanding lager using the Alsatian hop variety ELIXIR. His talent and expertise earned him first place in the category, as awarded by an international panel of judges in Valdivia.

His prize? An exclusive visit to Alsace to explore the region's renowned hop-growing expertise.

During his stay, Fuyen had the opportunity to closely explore Pfister Farm, a celebrated hop-growing operation. His visit coincided with harvest season, allowing him to observe the hop-picking, processing, and preparation in real conditions. He then moved on to the facilities in Brumath, where he witnessed the hop-reception process, providing him with a comprehensive view of the Alsatian production chain.

The immersive experience continued with a "Sniffing" session with Philippe Martin, a domain expert, where Fuyen had the chance to evaluate and analyze the subtle aromas of Alsatian hops. This session was followed by a tasting of experimental and commercial beers, showcasing the diverse profiles of Alsatian hops. Fuyen also visited the innovative startup TWISTAROMA, specializing in aromas, where he discovered the latest advancements in aromatic composition.

Finally, a visit to Strasbourg, the capital of Alsace, was an essential part of his journey, offering Fuyen an immersion into the local culture and history.
