Asahi Beer made with 100% Aramis Hops

I was offered a 100 ml sample of the above beer at the CBC in San Diego. I found the bitterness to be crisp and non-lingering and it blended in well with the malt and grain tastes. I did not sample this beer under optimal conditions to assess the hop aroma, but can say that I found nothing that stood out as objectionable or not in harmony with the beer. There was certainly enough pleasant hop aroma to mask the worty/grainy notes that tend to make lightly hopped beers unbalanced. I found it a refreshing and harmonious beer.

Asahis’ shareholder’s beer              Hop garden- Alsace 2011

Asahi’s Hiroshi Yamashita and Yohei Murakami from the Department of Technology Development and Promotion discovered the hop growing region from Alsace on a European hop tour during the 2011 harvest.

They were shown all about the hop growing industry in Alsace, from the plant propagation in the green house to the cold storage.

M. Yamashita and Murakami were especially interested in the Research & Development program and in the new hopping solutions offered by the hop growers in Alsace: PO9- 18, in between named Triskel and P05-9 which became Aramis.

Aramis has been finally chosen for a brewery special release: the shareholder’s beer.

A very fine and well balanced Pils, where the Aramis aroma appears very nice, smooth and refreshing.

A beer that deserves to be discovered by the beer lovers!
