Bitterness in its pure state. A Super Alpha variety from America that was introduced to France at the end of the 1990s. Often referred to as CTZ (Columbus, Tomahawk, Zeus), for the 3 names which were all given to what is actually the same variety.
Columbus is a half-sister of the Nugget variety. Its aroma is intense though pleasant, with notes of green fruits, citrus and esters. Some brewers dare to use this variety in late hopping
The Alsace region in France is one of the only European regions to cultivate this variety, with almost 24 hectares (59 acres) of production.
